Nanotechnology in Antibacterial Textiles

Category General
Difficulty Level Normal
Audience Level General
Description Nanoscience has a wide range of effects on other industries. In this course, a huge amount of information in regards with the role of nanoscience in industries is presented.
Overview
Rapid development of nanotechnology is often considered as a fundamental revolution in technology and is compared with the discovery of antibiotics, television, nuclear weapons, and computer technologies. Nanotechnology is a key technology and refers to a wide range of scientific and technological activities that study and work with phenomena or properties at nanometer scale (around 0.1-100nm; one nanometer is one millionth of a meter). Introducing current and potential applications is as significant as education. In this course, nanotechnology applications in textile, agriculture, oil and gas, automotive, environment, sports and nutrition industry are reported.

Booklet
Description
It provides an introduction on the use of nanotechnology in anti-bacterial textile finishing. Then it goes through inorganic and metal nanostructures and nanocomposites in the finishing of anti-bacterial textiles. Then it talks about the photocatalytic function of TiO2, its nanocomposites, and its polymer nanocomposites. Then it talks about silver nanoparticles and zinc nanoparticles, as well as copper nanoparticles. Finally it talks about layered aluminosilicate family.

Mental Challenge

How can the anti-bacterial property of textiles be improved by nanotechnology?

Quizzes and Activities

Activity: Find other fields in which silver nanoparticle is used for its antibacterial effects.
