Nanotechnology and Self-cleaning Textiles

Category General
Difficulty Level Normal
Audience Level General
Description Nanoscience has a wide range of effects on other industries. In this course, a huge amount of information in regards with the role of nanoscience in industries is presented.
Overview
Rapid development of nanotechnology is often considered as a fundamental revolution in technology and is compared with the discovery of antibiotics, television, nuclear weapons, and computer technologies. Nanotechnology is a key technology and refers to a wide range of scientific and technological activities that study and work with phenomena or properties at nanometer scale (around 0.1-100nm; one nanometer is one millionth of a meter). Introducing current and potential applications is as significant as education. In this course, nanotechnology applications in textile, agriculture, oil and gas, automotive, environment, sports and nutrition industry are reported.

Booklet
Description
After an introduction, it talks about the use of carbon nanotubes in order to synthesize a hydrophobic structure in textiles. Then it talks about the super-hydrophobicity of textiles, self-cleaning and contamination decomposition, photocatalitic principles of TIO2 and some effective parameters on photocathalitic properties of TIO2. Finally it talks about finishing of self-cleaning textiles by the use of TiO2.

Mental Challenge
What is self-cleaning?

Quizzes and Activities

Activity: Research why TiO2 is one of the highly used materials in the field of self-cleaning
