Description As we learnt in previous courses, nano is as small as a virus, thus, we need devices and methods working in this tiny world. Synthesis approaches and analytical methods in nanoscience are presented in this course.
Overview
Nano is a new science that uses its own methodology to be accessible. Top-down and bottom-up approaches are presented with some examples to clarify how nanomaterials are synthesized. On the other hand, characterization methods are take into account to learn how nanomaterials are investigated. In this course, students are encountered a couple of simple experiments with these concepts. They will be able to get the gist of nanomaterials synthesis approaches and characterization methods.

Description
Properties of materials depend on type of consisting atoms and bonds. Therefore, if we can connect atoms in desired form, we will acquire new materials with desired properties. Bringing atoms together and connecting in desired form is called “nanofabrication”.

Activity: If we assume Lego bricks as atoms and connecting them to each other as atomic bonds, practice making strongest atomic model with Legos. If you have 2 types of Legos (small and big ones) try to find out which of the connecting forms bellow is strongest. Discuss your conclusions.
